Its going to be quite a long post but just follow me and we'll get to a good end.😃😄
I want to share with you about 'WITNESSING'. It's probably not an attractive word but it's exactly what stuck to mind when I needed to write this post.
Witnessing simply means to proclaim the message of God's kingdom. Another name for this is Evangelism.
In my opinion, this is one of the things we Christians think twice before we set out to do. With many thoughts running through our head like : what am I going to say? What if I'm not received well? Its not my thing to just bump into people that way.. what if the person abuses or embarasses me?
Somewhere in our mind, its like we have a fear of been rejected . Well,i think all these are necessary questions and worries, however they are reflections of the mindset we have.
Evangelism isint about us persay, its about Christ. It isint about our personality or social status. It shouldn't be about our fears and worries. In this case we are focusing on ourselves and our abilities.
It's suppose to be about Christ and what he can say through us,what he can do through us. It's suppose to be an act of faith, where we just letgo of ourselves(been less self conscious) and permit Christ to do the work through his Spirit. He's the one that's suppose to help us,we ain't the one suppose to help him. The only part we get to play is availing ourselves. More like saying- Lord,i'm not sure what I'm going to say once I step out but I'm trusting you to say something through me. You may not even be sure where you're going to,i mean which direction of the street. I think this is what makes it fun...you're going on an adventure with one thing in mind,Christ, preaching Christ(sharing your faith).
Let's look at some Bible references:
Matthew.16:25-For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.(NIV)
Matthew.6:11- And if any place will not welcome you or listen to you, leave that place and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them."(NIV)
Its nothing to be embarrassed about if you're not granted audience to share your faith. It's against the one who rejects you and not on you!
Matthew.12:22(NIV)- And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.
Matthew.5:10(KJV)- Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake:
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Luke6:22(KJV)-. Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.
Romans12:14(KJV)- Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.
Matt9:37-38:
37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
There are always very few people that would end up evenagelizing, however for the few, there will always be an harvest out there for them I.e for everyone who will chose to step out, there will be harvests of souls for the kingdom...
Matthew 4:19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
This verse presents a picture of Christ training/making us everytime we step out. More like the training/teaching ground is the outside world. Jesus begins to teach us/we begin to really learn evangelism when we step out simply to draw someone closer to God.
Stepping out is an act of faith that Jesus honors:
1 Corinthians 3:6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.
Mark 16:17-18 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
It really will feel like you have nothing to say, however,God would often organise things in such a way that you'd have something to say to someone and then the flow continues!!
Matthew5:16 reminds about the light that you are in Christ and this light shines only in the darkness which is the world. So you've been wanting your light to shine? Then step out and allow Christ take you on an adventure to tell others about him!
You don't want to go out talking about Christ or you're holding back...hmm,are you sure you're not ashamed of Christ?? I know this question sounds weird but it just may be your truth!
Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
2 Timothy 1:8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
This may just be a call for you to intensely understand who a man is in Christ so that you may be more confident to share about him and the life you live in him with others.(1cor.15:1-4).
*******
1)It's not about you but Christ,so letgo of your personality/self. Be less 'me'/'self' conscious.
2) It's Christ that's to speak not you so trust that he would.
3)You can share about what you learnt on Sunday or your devotional if you aren't sure what to talk about.
4)Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you.
5)Commit the souls you speak to into God's hands and trust that he would continue what he started in their lives.
6)Do well to follow them up from time to time.
7)You can introduce them to a church if they don't have any.
Oceans by Hillsong is a very beautiful song for this kind of faith walk.
Proverbs 11:30: The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.
God bless you.
P.S: I appreciate you for stopping by. I won't be writing as often as I used to but each time the Lord drops something in my heart for you, I will surely drop it here. Thank you always for your time!!!
With Love,
Grace.
