When Christ was going to illustrate our relationship with the Father,he says in John 15:5 "I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing." Are you really focusing on the right things when you are asked to ask for what we want? I use to have a restrain in prayer before now. It was more like a subconscious one. Even though I have always known that God is able to do ALL things,I often catch myself doubting when it comes to asking for certain things~ BIG THINGS . For some reason,it seemed they were too big for me to ask him. I guess I just felt they were too big for me to have. But I know better now. I realised that God didn't just say 'Ask and it shall be given unto you....' in Matthew 7:7 He said to Jeremiah in Jeremiah 33:3- 'Call unto me,and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things which thou knowest not' God was literally defining the things he wanted Jeremiah to ask for... great things and mighty .
